Pavement being destroyed by horsetail growth

Reported anonymously at 14:21, Thu 13 June 2019

The short path up to the corner of Sturminster Close (No. 10) has been gradually deteriorating over at least ten years, despite efforts by the householder at No. 10 to keep down the growth of weeds by manual clearance. The lower part of the path was dug up and resurfaced a few years ago, but this is now being damaged by horsetail growth. The path needs replacing, possibly with a layer of salt underneath to hold back the growth of horsetail. The use of glyphosphates weedkiller would not be acceptable and wouldn't mend the path surface anyway. The horsetail is now spreading along the top path of Sturminster Close and in addition every time the grass is cut it is not swept up so adds to the available nutrients for growth.
