Old signage contradicts new lane markings
Reported in the Road Signage category by R Cudd at 11:09, Sun 12 March 2017
Sent to Bristol City Council 4 hours, 51 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1000882.
The new lane markings on the approach to the roundabout from the M32 north off-slip are contradicted by the old road signs which are still in situ. People don't know whether to go by the signs or the lane markings. This causes confusion and a lot of RTC near misses and road rage horn blowing! This has been reported numerous times but still not fixed.

This is a major problem! Today I actually whitnessed a police car almost cause an accident using these lanes. The lane markings on the approach to the lights and the sign (now covered by graffiti) still say only the left lane goes to horfield and eastgate however people now more than ever are using the middle lane and cutting across as they aren’t sure. During rush hour this increases traffic back onto the m32. 3 people I know have been involved in accidents here. Including my elderly mother who had someone smash into the back of her car whilst she was stationary because they had cut across other cars too quickly. I genuinely can’t undestand why we are still dealing with this after years and after money has been spent replacing signage and lane markings on the approach to the roundabout from other directions.

Due to cuts to local authority budgets by central government, BCC has had to make cuts to its budgets and staff. The Highways Department has been suffering a shortage of manpower and as a result it has meant this fault has not been rectified yet. Final signage designs are being worked on at the moment for final approval both internally within BCC and externally from Highways England. We apologise for these unavoidable delays and urge drivers to slow down and be patient at this junction.

It is now January and still being cut up and having near misses at this junction ! As I raised before people are having trouble claiming through insurances as drivers who cut you up use the defaced sign as an excuse. How many more accidents and road rage incidents have to take place before bcc addresses this. I have no idea how much a sign costs but this has been a long standing issue that we were told was being signed off in October months later drivers are still suffering

Coming up to 6 months since the final signage was being ‘worked on’ I’m shocked that this isn’t seen as an urgent issue, a major exit from a motorway with a completely covered/defaced sign seems like a big issue. This is dangerous to drivers no matter how careful they are and has a big impact on the traffic. No response to the complaints since January and this thread was created over a year ago! Who do we make formal complaints to?

Are you going to at least tell us if you’re ever going to fix it bcc, we were lied to a year ago about signs being finalised. Surely you should at least give a date? We’re just being ignored

Still no change here and my colleague reported a police car musing the lanes and almost causing a crash, the officer was warned and the police cane back to her to apologise and say the council should sort this
There have been complaints made about this on this site for over 4 years now and still no change or even feedback from BCC it’s disgusting. I will be making a petition and asking for FOI regarding accidents at this spot.

The council know about this roundabout as I bought a case against them but my Solictor’s dropped the case because they think I’d only have a 49% of winning, there is no way the middle lane is to take you up the m32 south from muller road (shell garage on your left as you pass) they are stating the left lane is a left lane only to Stapleton road, they clearly got cowboys to do these road markings and are not listening to there residents!!! Even the waste of space Mayor state’s he has faith in his council team and back what they say, I hope the wasteman has an accident on this road and see what happens then

Who do we direct formal complaints to, I have compiled a list of citizens who want to formally complain not only about this junction but about BCC completely ignoring concerns raised fir several years. Unsure what the purpose of this site is if you’re never going to deal with or respond to us?

The council are putting peoples lives at risk by not acting on the complaints about the roundabout, residents who live around eastville have complained, it just seems they can get away with it, this is a response from BCC regarding the lane markings after I sent them a freedom of information request;
Work to replace the faded lining was done in early 2017 as a Neighbourhood Partnership scheme but was left incomplete and the lining scheme is now undergoing a full safety audit. The Muller Road (East) entrance has two lanes that opens out into three lanes and under the new lining design lane one is supposed to open out into the nearside and middle lanes and lane two opening out into the far side lane only. The markings are very faded between the two lanes becoming three leading to some ambiguity. The new design is supposed to guide vehicles going to Eastgate into the middle entrance lane which then guides the driver on to the middle lane of the roundabout. This middle lane will lead drivers towards the M32 southbound exit and the Eastgate lane beyond the M32 exit. The nearside entrance lane guides drivers into the nearside lane of the roundabout which is just for Stapleton Road (southbound) exit. The farside entrance lane is supposed to guide drivers onto the farside lane of the roundabout that opens up into two lanes after the M32 Southbound exit; the left lane being for Muller Road (west) and the right lane for Stapleton Road (Northbound) and M32 (Northbound).
2 years, nearly 3 have gone past and they still haven’t done anything, I had a accident with police in nov 17. I emailed the mayor, complained to the council who’s insurance denied liability, the ombudsman (who are a waste of time, agreed the lane markings are incorrect) but still didn’t uphold my complaint, I contacted the MP for eastville - who agreed the left lane is not a left lane only, she was helping me but then decided there isn’t nothing they can do because dealing with the council is complicated. Pure corruption, I have until November 2020 to take this case to court, which I intend to do but need help from residents regarding the roundabout I have many near misses dashcam footages of this roundabout, need someone to help?
