There is a scheme in place to install flower planters along Symington Road, Fishponds (BS16) this coming Saturday (24/02/18). It would appear that the scheme has been instigated by a few local residents to curb speeding motorists. Having seen the yellow markings in the road which as far as I am aware have been implemented by a resident of the street, it would appear that the planters would make it very difficult for large vehicles such as recycling/rubbish collection lorries and emergency vehicles to pass. The proposed positions are on either side of the road staggered at the (at the Vassall Road end of Symington Road) and another one mid way (near house number 52). There do not appear to be any proposed speed calming measures where the Nursery School (Little Hayes) at the opposite end of the road. With the current (unofficial) parking arrangements which seem to be based on common sense, nearly all of the vehicles park on the left hand side of the road (heading away from Vassall Road end) which allows sufficient clearance for regular vehicular access. With the planters in position and cars parked opposite, access would be very difficult, especially for larger vehicles. Also, as far as I am led to believe, there is no funding for removing these planters if the system proves to be unsuccessful or cause an permanent obstruction.

Are there any alternative speed calming measures which could be implemented (speed bumps or similar ?) The planters may only make the speeding motorists more skilful at avoiding them at high speeds
