Planters in middle of road causing obstruction
Reported in the Obstruction category anonymously at 11:39, Thu 24 May 2018
Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 1320882.
There have been new planters placed in the middle of the road on Whitehall Avenue in the past few days- there was no warning or consultation with the community before they appeared. The planters have been placed dangerously towards the middle of the road and no official road signs to show drivers right of way. Causing unnecessary build up of traffic and drivers mounting the pavement causing risk to pedestrians. There has also been no change to parking rules on he street (ie double yellow lines) so people who are able to legally park are now causing an issue. The visibility of the road ahead driving in either direction is now extremely poor and is likely to cause an accident.

Planters were installed after consultation with people living in the part of Whitehall Avenue where the planters are located. Bristol City Council were consulted about location of planters and gave permission for the current locations. If vehicles are frequently being driven on the pavement then this should be reported to the police - www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/contact-us/general-contact-enquiries/general-contact-and-enquiry-form One of the considerations when locating the planters was to ensure visibility for approaching vehicles.

I understand this was in conjunction with Bristol city council but my concerns still stand. They are a danger and there are no warning/directional road signs and now provided very limited visibility to the road ahead. You can’t just say this isn’t a problem when it quite clearly is when you look at them. I understand this is on a trial basis so maybe I could be directed to the department trialing them?

I have seen numerous near accidents and people squeezing past where if they werent there there would be penty of room... why were these dangerous obsrutcions allowed to be placed? i would also like to know which department is trialing them as i would like to communicate with them. its a joke. i think i might put some outside my house as well if these are allowed to stay. hell lets all do it.. another swipe at the mororist in a car hating city... stupidly impractical and a real mind boggler that this was allowed in the first place?? stupid idea.
