Contradictory signs and traffic light needed

Reported in the Road Signage category anonymously at 09:55, Fri 15 June 2018

Sent to Bristol City Council 5 minutes later

Where stapleton road joins the slip road off the M32 at the place marked on the map, there are contradictory signs on the road. for the leftmost lane, the first sign says left only, the later sign says forwards AND left. this leads to endless chaos as regards which lane to be on to get to stapleton road on the other side of the roundabout to the left of the other slip road onto the M32. On the side of the roundabout marked, some people see the first sign and are in the middle lane, and some see the second sign and are in the left lane. Then on the roundabout you continually have a conflict between people already in the left lane and people in the next lane trying to barge into the left lane. At the point marked also there is continual conflict between people arriving from stapleton road trying to get in the middle lane or right lane versus people from the slip road trying to get in the left lane or remaining in their lane. There is a dire need for a traffic light to alternate access from the slip road versus access from stapleton road before the existing traffic lights. That is a very major roundabout and it is an all round nightmare, I will probably upload complaints about other parts of the same roundabout later. There needs to be a total overhaul of the lane markings of the entire roundabout, these lane markings shouldnt be on the road because a car could be on the marking and the marking will also gradually wear out, but should be on sign posts along every entry point. It is total confusion as to which lane for which exit. I think there must be about 12 entry lanes to the roundabout!

  • This photo mayhem.jpg shows the mayhem and its not even rush hour. a car is going to the left lane from the slip road, then a car going into the slip road lane, then another car turning left from the slip road, and then my car about to turn into the slip road. its often much worse, but I will have to drive there at rush hour to get a photo from the dashcam.
