Light-controlled pedestrian crossing timing wrong

Reported in the Road Signage category by Charles Beaton at 16:26, Fri 29 June 2018

Sent to Bristol City Council 4 minutes later

Hello, I should be grateful if you would adjust the time the pedestrian must wait for the Green Man to a few seconds. At present is it set to make the pedestrian wait, needlessly, giving them the opportunity to cross in a break in the traffic before the Green Man and thus leaving vehicles that arrive subsequently sitting at a Red Stop Light with no one using the crossing. This is not good for any road user. It would be better to discourage pedestrians from running across this busy road by reducing the waiting time. It would be better to avoid vehicles sitting at a Red Stop Light with no one crossing the road. Please apply this timing to every light-controlled pedestrian crossing that is not part of a light-controlled road junction.

  • I checked again today. I have to wait 60 seconds for the first Green Man and crossed in a gap in the traffic after 30 seconds waiting for the second Green Man on this two-stage crossing. Neither Green Man was showing during the two minutes I was walking towards the crossing. There is no reason for the pedestrian to wait. The result of waiting is that pedestrians cross in a gap in the traffic prior to the Green Man. Then vehicles must wait at a red light with no one using the crossing. Please change Green Man to zero waiting time.
