Electronic 20mph speed warning sign doesn't work.

Reported in the Road Signage category by David F at 10:11, Thu 4 October 2018

Sent to Bristol City Council 4 minutes later

When the 20mph limits were introduced, an auto/electronic 20mph warning sign was installed on Stoke Lane (opposite Great Brockeridge), just as cars were approaching the row of shops and pedestrians crossing. For as long as I can remember, the sign never seems to flash on, and plenty of cars are doing 20mph+++. Very dangerous when approaching the shops.

  • 3 months since reporting this and NOTHING. What's the point of a site like this encouraging people to raise issues if you then do nothing?!

  • On 16 January 2019 I received the email below.

Dear David Foster, Thank you for reporting this faulty sign. There has been some ambiguity in the past over who maintains these electronic signs that were put in as part of the 20mph scheme, which may have been why you have struggled to get a response. These signs have now been taken on to the Traffic Signals Maintenance Contract and we are in the process of updating all the relevant records. This electronic speed sign on Stoke Lane is being added to our database and will be passed on to our maintenance contractor for repair. Yours sincerely,

Daniel Holden Principal Traffic Signals Engineer Transport Service Bristol City Council
