Zebra crossing on Park Street needs lighting

Reported in the Street lighting category anonymously at 14:30, Thu 24 January 2008

Sent to Bristol City Council 5 minutes later

On the 10th of January, I was driving Westwards and I stopped at a zebra crossing to let a pedestrian cross in front of me. My car got rear-ended because another driver 3 cars back did not stop and pushed the next 2 cars into the back of mine.

I believe that a contributing factor to this was this stretch of Park Street / Bell Hill is very dark at night. A set of beacons or traffic lights at each end of the crossing would have given all traffic plenty of warning, and they could have all stopped without an accident.

Updates

  • The cause of these accidents is not due to poor lighting. It is due to excessive speed of drivers that user this stretch of road as a race track. The council are well aware of the number of accidents on this stretch of road, but are unwilling to take the concerns of local residents seriously until someone is seriously injured or killed.
