Pedestrian crossing - pedestrian detectors malfunctioning
Reported in the Traffic lights category anonymously at 23:34, Thu 11 October 2018
Sent to Bristol City Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 1435332.
The pedestrian crossing at the bottom of Park Street seems to use sensors which detect when pedestrians are no longer waiting at the crossing.
These sensors seem to go wrong frequently, leaving people standing at the crossing, not realising that the button needs to be pushed again (sometimes multiple times).
If the sensors are not reliable enough, they should be disabled.

Is this a complaint about faulty detectors at this crossing or complaining about nearside detectors in general? One of our officers used this crossing yesterday (Monday 15th October) and it was operating correctly.

This is at this specific crossing.
It doesn't happen every time, but for me (I usually cross here 2 times each weekday), I encounter the problem 2-3 times per week.
I don't have the same problem at any other crossing.

The problem occurred this morning, so I was able to film it:

It took three attempts for the wait signal to stay on, then it took over a minute for the lights to change.

And yet one of our staff wen through the crossing in the exact same direction as you and encountered no problems at all. We're sending out a maintenance engineer to investigate because the kerbsides shouldn't be cancelling when you're standing right next to the push button like that.

A maintenance engineer has been out found the detectors were out of alignment. They have realigned them and the site is working correctly.
