Illegal U-Turn problem

Reported in the Traffic lights category anonymously at 15:34, Thursday 2 May 2019

Sent to Bristol City Council 1 minute later

Twice so far this week I have narrowly avoided being runover by cars doing u-turns at the lights right into the path (travelling away from Temple Meads direction) whilst people are crossing on the 'green man' light on the pedestrian crossing. Either a 'no U-Turn' sign is needed or someone needs to look into this urgently.

Updates

  • Narrowly avoided being hit by a car yesterday whilst crossing with 'green man' showing. Car was performing a U turn against red lights. How long before someone gets hit by car, or bus ! Must be legal case for council to react now they've been informed ? .

  • Other people have reported this. Considering how dangerous this situation is, no one seems to be investigating it or resolving it. Please don't let someone die before something gets done. There are more and more vehicles doing this u-turn. Probably in a desperate attempt to take a cheeky but illegal short cut.

  • I've had and witnessed more near misses with vehicles doing this U-Turn whilst the 'green man' is in operation for pedestrians to cross - particularly at noon time in office lunch breaks. Still no action. I'm sure this problem has got worse because Temple Back East has become a lot busier due to being the only access to Temple Meads parking. Drivers used to turn into Temple Back East to turn around and come back up Temple Way towards Temple Meads. Now that they cannot easily turn around because of the busy side road, they tempted to do a U-Turn instead. When I challenged the driver who nearly ran me over he said there was nothing to stop him doing that - failing to realise that in doing so puts the vehicle directly into the path of pedestrians crossing. There's even permanent tyre marks proving this is a regular maneuver. Unfortunately can't take any photos - it's too dangerous to do so.

  • I don't believe anything will be done on this situation. Very disappointed that this safety issue is not being taken seriously.
