Sent to Bristol City Council 4 minutes later
I was riding at night on my electric bicycle (which was purchased really recently) on Salcombe road. I was returning from Bristol city centre and the time was around 9:30 pm, both my front and rear lights on my bike were on and working. I am an experienced cyclist as I cycle to and from work for the last 5 years, I have never had an accident before.
I wanted to turn on Salcombe Avenue (I live on Springleaze road) so I indicated with my arm. I hit a large pot whole in the road as I was indicating and pressed on my break with my right hand as other hand was indicating. My whole bike flipped and went over my head landing then on top of me.
I was wearing a helmet. I injured both my legs, both elbows and hands (More pictures of injuries on the day and after available). I was wearing gloves and a fluorescent coat. My accident was severe but it could have also been a lot worse. Significant damage was caused to the bike. Two cars thankfully stopped and there was not any further accident.
I was very unwell for over a week and had to be driven to and from work by a colleague. I saw a medical professional for my injuries. I took my bike for a check up 3 days after the accident (Jake’s bikes in Bristol). The damage was assessed and I was quoted a price over £200 pounds. Photos of all damage are available
Some time has since passed, my injuries have still not healed and my bicycle worth over £ 1000 is still damaged (it is rideable but the battery can no longer be removed from the frame and there are further issues with the frame.)
I have reported issues with the road I commute on and have never received a reply. This accident was cause due to poor road maintenance and I am seeking compensation for the damages as well as my injuries.
