Numerous tripping hazards on Harbour Walkway at Hotwells
Reported in the Pavement Defect category anonymously at 15:58, Wed 22 January 2020
Sent to Bristol City Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 1955092.
There are numerous tripping hazards along this walkway, caused by lack of maintenance. There are missing blocks, sharp edges on exposed blocks and the tarmac, and very bumpy tarmac which I have seen cyclists fall off on the bumpy bits (especially young children) and I have seen joggers and pedestrians trip over the exposed edges on my daily commute along there. You can't avoid them when cycling as the Walkway gets so crowded, and you have no other option. Also after dark it is very dark because the trees are so overgrown they don't allow any light from the street lamps to fall on the Walkway, which makes those exposed edges even more dangerous. It's about time something was done to repair and improve it, on such a very busy commuter route. Thank you. M Blake.

I agree that the state of this path is very dangerous as the roots from the trees have lifted too many bricks, causing it easy to trip. I’ve done it a number of times and sadly saw an elderly lady trip and land very hard just before Christmas. For such a popular and busy walk way I am shocked it’s been left to get to such a dangerous state

I am also outraged at this dangerous site, it caused me to fall and severely sprain my ankle, leaving me on crutches for what is now my 5th week, missed out on work and attending my university classes, I will be taking this further and plea that some maintenance is taken up on this street to prevent this happening to others!! Outraged!!

I'm sorry to hear that you sprained your ankle - for the busy walkway, there really is no excuse to the state of the path and these kind of accidents could be avoided.
I walk this route regularly with a pushchair and it does feel like a slalom sometimes - dodding the routes/holes and cyclists.
It's been under investigation by the council since at least 27th Jan so surprised there's been no further updates, as simply walking this route it's clear to see something has to be done!

It doesn't appear as if any remedial work has been done at all, even to remove even the largest of the tripping hazards. It's shameful that Marvin Rees wants to spend Billions of pounds on messing up Cumberland Basin but wont even spend a couple of thousand on making the walkway safe for us all.

Nobody has done a damn thing to improve this surface and make it safe for people. It's just getting worse all the time.

It’s very dangerous and ironically for a wide path it’s impossible to social distance as you end up in a single path due to the trip hazards of the roots or a cyclist speeding down. Surprised there’s not been any updates from BCC on this matter for safety and to help with social distancing, as has been down in Clifton Village for example!
