Third time lucky

Reported via Android in the Pavement Defect category anonymously at 16:21, Friday 29 May 2020

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later

This is the third time that I've reported this problem. There is an area of pavement that appears to be hollow beneath the surface. The first time a small square of bitumen was put on the hole, but within a few weeks the hole appeared again next to the old hole. When I reported it again, a larger covering was used, but the hole has appeared again. This is clearly a problem that needs more than an Elastoplast approach. The pavement needs to be dug up, the void filled, and the surface relaid.

  • The hole is now large enough to fit my size 10 shoe into. Someone is going to break their ankle soon.

    Still open, via questionnaire

  • The latest picture (attached to this message) was taken over 3 weeks ago, and shows that a second deep hole has opened up. Both holes are now much larger, and a distinct danger to anyone walking on this stretch of pavement. I assume that the council are waiting until it is large enough for someone to fall down it, up to their waist, before they consider it worth dealing with, and will then probably just put a thin covering over the top again so that I can have the pleasure of reporting the problem a 4th time in a couple of months time.
