Slippery tactile paving on sloped pavement
Reported in the Pavement Defect category anonymously at 00:19, Wed 19 August 2020
Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2252685.
The pavement on the corner of Regent St and Royal York Crescent is quite steeply sloped around a tight corner. There is some tactile paving here ahead of a dropped kerb. Due to the sloping pavement this tactile paving is angled.
Earlier this week I slipped on this surfacing when it had been raining. At the time I was pushing a pushchair and turning the corner. The top of the tactile paving has smooth‘nodules’ which are very slippery when wet, especially as the ground is sloping. Although I managed not to fall onto the ground I have strained/twisted my knee/thigh as I fought to stay upright, which has become increasingly painful today. I also nearly let go of the pushchair which would have gone into the road. I was wearing trainers with a good tread on them.
The pavement around this corner is too narrow and difficult to negotiate with buggies, wheelchairs or young children on bikes/scooters. It needs to be widened to lower the gradient, provide space to wait to cross the road. The tactile pavement is also unsafe and needs to be less slippery, perhaps it can be replaced with a different version.
