Incorrect bollard causing a dangerous hazard
Reported in the Road Signage category anonymously at 14:34, Wed 23 September 2020
Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2308548.
The bollard incorrectly directs cyclists to go to the right of the barrier when in fact they should go left. This causes a dangerous situation where the cyclist can be heading directly at a motor vehicle coming the other way. The bollard must be removed or changed to show the arrow in the other direction.
Previously the bridge was set up to allow 2-way traffic controlled by traffic lights allowing only northbound or only southbound across the narrow section. At that time, the bollard would have been correct.
Now, the traffic lights are gone and the bridge is closed to northbound traffic completely except for cycles which are supposed to use the pedestrian section to the left, meanwhile southbound traffic can go across any time. The bollard still directs northbound traffic to the right though, and it is all too easy for a cyclist to obey the right-pointing arrow and find themselves head-to-head with an oncoming motor vehicle.

I recently observed another cyclist obeying the incorrect bollard and riding dangerously into the path of oncoming traffic. It is an obgoing problem
