Redundant publicly-funded overhead "Transport cafe" sign

Reported via desktop in the Road Signage category by Duncan Ogilvie at 12:57, Sun 15 November 2020

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later

There is and has been for many years a large, overhead, illuminated "Transport cafe ... transport parking" sign in Merchants Road. This is redundant because (a) the cafe on the south side of Cumberland Basin closed some 10 years ago (there is a more-prosperous restaurant there now), (b) Commercial "Transport" parking is not available there, and (c) municipal advertising of a particular cafe is not appropriate.

  • Why is such a prominent, large, night-lit, redundant sign continuing to distract drivers on this so very busy A4 road?
