Vehicle parked causing issues on one way street
Reported via desktop in the Obstruction category anonymously at 08:36, Wed 25 November 2020
Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2404240.
This was car parked in Hebron Road (near no. 26) 3 and 1/2 weeks ago. It is parked facing the wrong way down a one way street. The road is narrow and by convention and common practice residents park using part of the pavement. This vehicle has not parked like this and is being badly damaged by larger vehicles trying to get past. It looks as if the vehicle has been dumped. An owner living nearby would have noticed.

Other than facing the wrong way, there is nothing wrong with the way this vehicle has been parked. It is illegal to drive on to the pavement to park, and this is highlighted in the highway code. Other motorists who drive on to the pavement are breaking the law.

Fair enough comment but if you lived on the road you would appreciate the problem caused by the way the car is parked. It is severely scratched which is wasn’t when it was parked after having driven down the road in the wrong direction. It is sitting so the waste collection lorries, ambulances and larger vehicles like this cannot get passed it without mounting the kerb, thus driving on the pavement.
Also in the Highway Code, Rule 239 states ‘do not park facing against the traffic flow’. This vehicle clearly has. In addition Rule 242 states ‘You MUST NOT leave your vehicle or trailer in a dangerous position or where it causes obstruction of the road’. Given that the vehicle is now badly scratched wider vehicles must be struggling to get past. It is not a complete obstruction but partial.

Perhaps BCC should review the layout of the road, and put double yellows on both sides if refuse lorries can't get past with a single car parked on one side legally. No excuse for pavement parking
