Loose boards on Gaol Ferry Bridge
Reported via mobile in the Bridges/Subways category anonymously at 16:25, Fri 22 January 2021
Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2495739.
I walk/run/cycle across the bridge several times a day (and have done all my life) and have noticed it’s beginning to feel less and less stable - the boards are coming loose both at the sides where they connect to some kind of runner (see pictures) and more generally from their bolted-down positions (some are sticking up a couple of cms.) Have noticed this more on the Redcliffe side (former pedestrian side, which you now walk on if you’re heading to south of the river) but is a problem to some extent on both. Also the bridge seems very bouncy - I know it’s a suspension bridge and is meant to do that but I’ve been crossing it all my life in all conditions and I’d say it’s noticeably shaky at the moment. This is especially a problem by the south-side pier on the Redcliffe/former pedestrian side which is making a rattling noise when the bridge bounces (eg as someone jogs over it); although this may be related to aforementioned loose boards
