Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later

This has been here for months and every time a vehicle goes over it there is an extremely loud noise, my daughters bedroom is adjacent to this and it wakes her up at night and is also very annoying when sitting on my balcony with visitors

  • This problem is continuing, and if anything the noise is getting even louder. I live in a nearby flat and it sometimes wakes me up. I work from home and it's a constant disturbance during the day.

  • This needs a really good repair as the temporary ones break down quickly. the noise is waking us up at night and very disturbing all day, but more importantly it is dangerous. I heard cyclists screaming as they went over it the other day.

  • The noise from this cover is getting beyond a joke BCC you need to fix this. Please let the poor residents of Hotwell Road know when this is going to happen. Thanks

  • This problem continues to be a constant source of irritation for residents and a danger to cycles and scooters alike. The noise is ridiculously loud and continues day and night. The issue was originally reported nearly three months ago and with updates from other residents and a call to your department still no action has been taken. Will it take a serious accident before you take any action and in the meantime the residents of Hotwell Road continue to have their lives disrupted.

  • This problem is still not fixed. PLEASE get on it and get it fixed. It’s beyond a joke. Yesterday I saw an old lady stagger with shock as the gun like noise was made a she passed by. Not fun for her or the residents in the area

  • We've referred the issue externally for appropriate action to be taken, as it's not something Bristol City Council is responsible for.

  • Who is responsible for it then. So we can hassle them.

  • The team came to repair it today. Within 5 minutes a hole had appeared and it is still clanking. This is really unacceptable. I pay a lot of tax to live here and expect better

  • What a joke this is, we have been waiting months and enduring constant noise from this manhole day and night. Two men with a bucket full of tar is not going to fix this, most of what they used has already disappeared, it needs fixing properly not another patch up.

  • I’ve got a call with Vodaphone’s complaints dept in the morning. Perhaps they will send out some competent repair people….. …in the mean time please cordon off this section of the road so that vehicles can’t us it. The buses never use the bus Lane anyway….

  • In the last two hours the hole has become a line, about a bicycle tyre width. This looks pretty dangerous to me, if a wheel goes into this it will be a bad accident.

  • Are you waiting for an injury to occur? Still no progress on this. Please cordon off this part of the bus Lane.

  • I'm puzzled as to why this isn't the council's responsibility. The problem only started after a previous attempt to fix road subsidence, so it seems clear that it was that botched repair which caused the issue. If you watch what happens when a vehicle goes over, you can see that it's not a broken manhole cover that's the problem: the entire frame which supports the manhole cover moves, because the frame is no longer held up by the road. So it's the road surface which needs fixing, which I would have thought was the council's responsibility.

  • I’m very concerned to see the real deterioration of the road surrounding the manhole cover. Hopefully the pictures show the dangerous nature of the trap that is opening up. Please attend to this before not after an accident.

  • I do hope Bristol City Council have carried out a very thorough risk assessment for the Great Bristol Run to be held on 19th September, when some 12,000 runners are due to run through this stretch of Hotwell Road where there is now a depression alongside the collapsed manhole of about 12 inches

  • Good point about the run. On Sunday they were our repairing the roadway on Anchor Road...some inacuous little bumps. Why couldn't they mend the roadway here at the same time? Beggars belief.
