Permanent disgusting mess of bins, fly tipping and recycling. Mixed commercial and residential. Blocks the pavement always

Reported via mobile in the Rubbish (refuse and recycling) category anonymously at 10:34, Mon 7 June 2021

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later

Have lived at the bottom of this hill for the past 2.5 years and there has ALWAYS been a terrible mess at the top of Hensman’s Hill at the back of the shops and flats here. This mess has always blocked the pavement and regularly spills out onto the street. Recycling food waste is strewn across the street on a weekly basis and various items flytipped here also.

Updates

  • I live 20 metres down the hill from this.

The pavement is inaccessible to wheelchair and pram users. We’re the latter and have to navigate the road and traffics every day.

There are now regularly, almost daily, rats spotted in the waste.

I’ve spoken to residents and business owners but no one will take responsibility for it. The residents claim they have no other designated bin storage and the shops owners more offer just shrug and say this is where they’ve been told to put it.

Of much lesser impact is the rubbish that blows down the hill and into our drive. But it it’s spreading to our house then I can only assume it’s going further down the hill too.

All in all pretty disgusting and unhygienic.

  • Agree with all the sentiments expressed above. I too have spoken to the residents and business owners but to no avail. On a couple of occasions the council have cleared up what they can but the problem always returns. This eyesore and health hazard must be resolved before someone is harmed by the broken glass, rusty cans and rotting food.
