Drains not capable of handling rain
Reported via mobile in the Flooding category anonymously at 09:01, Mon 5 July 2021
Sent to Bristol City Council 35 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 2840795.
I have called the council out on several occasions to fix the ‘blocked drains’ as the road floods on the slightest bit of rainfall. Apparently the incorrect drains have been installed, they are the incorrect pots or something. The road floods whenever it rains, as shown in the photos attached. This is incredibly dangerous and is a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt. This is a popular crossing point, which forces pedestrians to cut through the middle of the puddle (lowest flooding point) to cross the road. Vale lane is a notorious short cut to bypass traffic on the main road, so cars travel at high speeds on this section of road on a daily basis. As my office looks out on this junction, I see the near missus and hear the screeching of brakes every time the drains on either side of the road are overrun. I have seen young kids on their bikes trying to navigate through the puddle and cars having to slam on their brakes. Something needs to be done about this before it is too late, as I don’t want it on my conscience. The drains on both side of the entrance/exit to vale lane, outside my work (Befanco) need immediate attention. There is currently puddles out their now, as a result of the rainfall over the weekend.

This problem has not been fixed and has been incredibly dangerous this last couple of weeks with the wet weather. The drains simply cannot handle any amount of rainfall and flood the road, making crossing the road impossible for pedestrians. It is a serious accident waiting to happen, i have seen kids caught in the middle of the road trying to navigate around the puddle and cars braking late. This has the potential to be a fatal accident and the problem needs resolving sooner rather than later before anything happens!

ETM have visited the drains and attempted to 'unblock' them, however as previously informed, the drains have the incorrect pots and are not capable of handling the rain. Another downpour and the road is flooded again. I have recently installed CCTV, which 1 camera covers this area, i have just witnessed children trying to cross this lake, luckily no cars were speeding round the corner at this time. However i can assure you there will be an accident here at some point because of this flooding every time it rains, i hope its not a child and i hope its not fatal. I have made numerous complaints about this dangerous part of the road, this should have been dealt with properly, as i know the notes on your system also confirm the pot in each drain is the wrong size.
