The monhole cover outside No 80 Cumberland Road rattles with a loud mechanical sound 24/7 when a car drives over it

Reported via mobile in the Carriageway Defect category anonymously at 17:26, Tue 13 July 2021

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later

This has been the case for months and the mechanic clunk as cars drive across it is loud enough to wake us at night .

  • The noise is getting worse and the collapse is now deeper. I understand a default notice to Virgin Media was issued 14/7/21 but nothing done in the last 2 weeks.

  • Today 3 August 2021 a repair crew filled in the depression at the manhole with Tarmac. However this was a superficial repair and did not address the lose manhole and frame which continue to rattle as loudly as it ever did whenever a car drives over it .

  • The CATV manhole outside 80 Cumberland Road remains un-repaired and the CATV manhole outside No 77 Cumberland Road has also developed a rattle ( slightly less loud than the cover at No 80 ) as cars drive over it. Virgin were working on both these manholes in July.

  • I understand that the carriageway has been made safe but the cover has not been touched. It continues to clang loudly and is unbearable if you have tuned into the sound. The summer has been ruined once again for sitting outside your home. This problem was first identified in April. A notice was issued to Virgin 14th July some three months later. The council has told me that Virgin had 30 days to fix and if not the council would fix and bill Virgin. I hope that this job has been listed by the council and would ask them to respond with an update. We are now coming up to 5mths from posting with little attempt to rectify.

  • Still no change to the two rattling manhole covers - outside No's 77 and 80 Cumberland road - both Virgin media CATV covers - which I understand they have known about since April 2021. How do we get them to accept their responsibility and repair them??
