Inadequate no through road signage causes frequent issues

Reported via desktop in the Road Signage category anonymously at 10:45, Mon 27 September 2021

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later

For many years, motorists turn into our narrow and steep no-through-road in error. This occurs perhaps now on a daily basis. Often there is no room to turn around, causing distress for those who find it difficult to reverse downhill through small gaps between parked cars. In fact in Sep 2021 somebody spent the night in their car (with hot tea and blankets from us) rather than reverse downhill in the dark. The problem is I think that people follow sat nav and believe our road is either the close-by Ashley Down Road to Horfield or Sommerfield Road to Bishopston. I think the cause of the problem is that the one of the no-through-road signs has degraded and is low down so it is mostly hidden by park cars. The sign on the other corner is better but not illuminated. Ideally, there should be poles with illuminated signage on both corners. Perhaps signage should read 'no entry except for access' as this might be more eye-catching.

Updates

  • A new enquiry has been raised for this issue.

  • I’ve made requests for a similar thing on Dirac Rd. It’s a cul de sac, many motorists think it’s a through road, and they come in, turn around and exit again. The increased motor traffic poses a danger to pedestrians, especially parents with children who are going to Ashley Down Green.

A more prominent cul de sac sign is needed on Dirac Road, too.

  • Please do the same for Dirac Road, BS79LP. This also needs prominent signage.
