Building works blocking footpath and cycle lane

Reported via desktop in the Obstruction category anonymously at 09:54, Mon 4 October 2021

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later

Works outside this building have been blocking the pavement for some time; the footpath has been blocked by scaffolding I think for many months now, but with no visible signs of work; more recently, some of the scaffolding has been removed, but now the works are ground level have extended, and are also blocking the cycleway in both directions, by parking two large construction vehicles there. There is no signage to indicate what work is happening, whether there is permission in place to cause so much obstruction, or when the works will end.

  • Hi - this space is still blocked some months later. Can I ask for an update please, and in particular an update on what the timescale is for returning this space to the public? It seems extraordinary that a private company can block critical public space for so long, creating a significant hazard for cyclists and pedestrians, with minimal signage, and no timetable for completion,

  • The cycle path and pavement is still blocked. Please provide an update as to whether the building works have the correct permissions to close this path, and if so, why there were no signs put into place or advanced warning of the closure. Please provide a timescale for reopening of the path. This has been a problem for more than 6 months now.

  • This is going on at least 5 months now.

For the past 3 weeks there has been no work done to this area - it is essentially a storage place for construction fences.

It is also collecting a vast amount of litter.

This is critical and extremely busy public space which has been in a state of disuse for roughly half a year. Really really poor form.
