Road Signs around the centre of Bristol that are not recognised

Reported via desktop in the Road Signage category anonymously at 15:18, Fri 15 October 2021

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later

I had the misfortune to drive into Bristol centre this morning and was met with a plethora of road signs that made navigating a legal path through extremely difficult and confusing. I have never come across the road sign 'BUS GATE' before and cannot find any reference to such a sign in the Highway Code or any other nationally recognised legal documentation. I have no idea what it means and the difference between in and 'BUS LANE' which is in common use.
