Sudden steep slope downwards toward kerb

Reported via desktop in the Pavements category anonymously at 13:32, Thu 16 June 2022

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later

Having parked our car in Mortimer Road, I was travelling in my wheelchair in Mortimer Road, towards Clifton Down Road , using the pavement on the left. The pavement is covered with tarmac, which makes it difficult to identify any change in slope. As I was moving along, my wheelchair suddenly without warning tipped over and fell into the road, with me still in it. I hit my elbow and the side of my head and was very shaken up. Mortimer Road is quite narrow and a car was coming along behind me and whilst I was still lying in my wheelchair in the road was offensive to the people who had come to my aid, which increased my distress. My husband helped me slide out of the wheelchair and righted it. Our helpers picked me 6up and put me back into the wheelchair and we all went on our way. On returning to the car later I used the road as I was too afraid to use the pavement. I am reporting this as I would like to avoid this happening to any other wheelchair user. My husband returned to take photographs later, which I have included in this report.
