Because double yellow lines are so faded cars and vans park right up yo the end. This makes it impossible for vehicles to turn left or right. A huge problem for bin lorries, trucks and emergency services.

Cars park right at the edge of the road on a daily basis, mainly commuters (as locals know that your car will be driven into with no details left) Delivery vans (even small supermarket food delivery trucks) cannot turn into the street without multiple manuvers. Traffic wardens are rare.
