Over hanging branches

Reported via desktop in the Tree touching building category anonymously at 17:58, Thursday 4 August 2022

The tree adjacent to my property is a beautiful tree but is severely over grown on the side adjacent to my house. I appreciate that the trees were planted when the houses were built and have not been a problem for the past 60 years. However, I think the council should take some responsibility for keeping the trees to a manageable size. I have already had to pay for underpinning due to subsidence to outbuildings due to the proximity of the trees. I appreciate we can trim back low hanging branches, although only with permission if the tree is protected but in this circumstance the branches are too high to reach. It would be most helpful if you could just trim the overhanging branches back. In high winds, the branches actually touch the house and there is a risk of damage to the property and to life if the branch goes through the window or roof. There is also a Health and Safety risk with the falling walnuts. When they fall from a great height on to a child or elderly person, which they have done, the force and weight is quite significant and can cause injury. They also split when falling directly on to the floor causing slip and trip hazards.
