Tree Trunks trailing River Frome

Reported via desktop in the Fallen tree category anonymously at 11:59, Wed 14 September 2022

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3824792.

Approx three weeks ago (late August) two mature sycamore trees collapsed, due to weather conditions and both fell across the river Frome a little upstream of our road: Riverview, BS16 1DL. The trees were rooted on the “Grove Wood” side of the river opposite Snuff mills park. The trees’ upper branches reached far enough to fall on a footpath across the river on the opposite Snuff Mills park side leaving the majority of their trunks resting in the river and at right angles to the flow of the river. BCC immediately attended to clear the Snuff Mills footpath side and later returned to remove more of both trees’ branches from the river area. However, the bulk of the two main trunks still remain across the riverbed and their up-turned roots have badly eroded a public right of way on the Grove Wood side. We are very concerned that when the river level rises during the coming winter months that the tree trunks will be pushed downstream by the pressure of water and will lead to further and considerably greater amounts of bank and path erosion to the Grove Wood side and problems of further river blockage downstream to the next weir.
