Overhanging foliage
Reported via desktop in the Obstruction category anonymously at 08:15, Thu 15 September 2022
Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3826590.
The 2 blind corners at top & bottom of the Banner Road Steps & the steps themselves, make it a convenient place for drug users to sit, drink, use drugs, urinate & at times defecate. This happens constantly, day & night. The many local people who daily use the Steps, including parents taking children to & from school, have to negotiate their way between drug users, drug paraphernalia, bottles of urine & other unpleasant litter & the overhanging foliage. Residents are Reclaiming the Steps. Please assist by cutting back the foliage which runs the entire length of the Steps & round the corner at the bottom. Thank you.

A huge 'thank you' to the Council Workers who today, not only swept & shovelled up all the litter & debris from the Banner Road Steps, adjoining pavement & alleyway into Shaftesbury Avenue, but cleared all the flytipped items, including those added over the weekend to the items reported on 14th Sept. Residents would appreciate a weekly clearing & cleaning of this public right of way, please, to enable local people, including primary school children, to come & go without having to look out for needles & other drug paraphernalia & step over large & sometimes unpleasant items blocking the Steps. We now look forward to the overhanging foliage being cut back to further open up the Steps to discourage flytipping & drug taking from this busy thoroughfare.

The Banner Road Steps have been clear & clean for 10 days now - a record! No flytipping, no drugs paraphernalia, urine bottles or rubbish! Such an improvement to the experience of the many who daily use this pathway. Huge thanks to Chris, our excellent street cleaner & colleagues, for keeping the Steps clear. HOWEVER, we're still waiting for the foliage blocking the Steps to be cut right back, please, as confronting drug users in such a narrow passageway is intimidating, especially at night. Thank you.
