Highway Maintenance vehicles speeding

Reported via desktop anonymously at 18:41, Wed 9 November 2022

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later

This is a 30 mph zone because so many families and their dogs cross the road to get to the Daisy Field. I never in the 10 years living here have I seen one Highway Maintenance vehicle stick to the limit. Today crossing the road around 2.20 My wife and I plus 3 dogs nearly got run over by one of your vehicles. Despite pointing to the 30mph sign, your vehicle not only continued its speed (around 60-70 mph) it sounded its horn as if to say "get lost". When we started crossing the road there was no vehicle in sight and then your truck came speeding around the bend.and we had to shift pretty quickly because there was no way, even if he had applied the brake, that we would have escaped injury otherwise. Please, please notify your drivers to stick to the 30 mph or I shall start taking photos of them and report them to the police.

Updates

  • Occasionally a mobile speed unit polices this section of the Portway but only considers traffic coming off the motorway and only at times when traffic is heavy and, therefore, slower. A permanent speed camera or/and zebra crossing are needed to get to the gateway of the Daisy field which might slow down cars which are going so fast they would be breaking the speed limit on the motorway. Otherwise there will be a fatality in the near future instead of many near misses of pedestrians crossing the road as families and/or with their dogs.
