Tree Roots lifting paving slabs creating trip hazards.

Reported via desktop in the Pavements category anonymously at 00:13, Saturday 7 January 2023

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4096842.

In the described location, there are significant trip hazards created by lifted paving slabs damaged by tree roots. Over the years the council have repeatedly planted tree's along this section of road which have needed removal due to tree root damage, as can be evidenced by the generalized poor condition of the slabs and old tree holes. Even worse, it is very frustrating to see that two NEW trees have recently been planted along the same section of road! No doubt I shall be raising fresh reports in a few years when these new tree's have grown and damaged the footpath yet again! C'mon Bristol Council, I am very supportive of encouraging wildlife, but the grass verge is simply not wide enough to support the growth of large tree's.

Updates

  • A new enquiry has been raised for this issue.

Posted by Bristol City Council at 00:13, Saturday 7 January 2023

  • This slab still broken and loose and wobbles as you walk over it. This is main road for the nearby school and gets lots of foot traffic, it's just a matter of time before somebody trips and falls into the road. As mentioned in another issue on this same road. ( Ref.4758388) the verge is not suitable for large trees to be planted, either they grow and ultimately damage the path or die and have to be removed - which is exactly what had happened up the road. Yet despite this the council see fit to plant more new trees by the patch!!
