Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4224133.
No action appears to have been taken by Bristol City Council, as the relevant Highway Authority, regarding the dangerous road reported by at least one other person - FIRSTLY OVER 3 MONTHS AGO!
Urgent action is required to repair this Bristol road to an appropriate standard before it is the cause of a tragic accident.
The attached 3 photos relate to a small, but critical, section of generally well used public road at the junction of St Michael's Hill and Horfield Road in Kingsdown, central Bristol (close to the "permanently closed" Scotsman and his Pack public house). The locality is part of the Bristol West Parliamentary Constituency, and in Bristol Central Ward.
The Bristol City Council web site records other submitted reports that this section of road is considered dangerous and needs repair. The first report was made over 3 month ago (8th November 2022), with another on 18th January 2023, plus at least one more. However, as of today (10th February 2023), the problem remains unresolved. So, Section 41 of the Highways Act 1980 appears relevant (rather than Section 58).
The issue relates to a substandard finish to the road surface around a loose metal cover which is inappropriately inset into the ground.
The fact that the loose metal cover is below the surrounding road surface, combined with deep gaps between the (seemingly resurfaced) tarmac road and metal cover, has already resulted in a cyclist being thrown off their bike (fortunately there was no approaching traffic at the time - a month ago - so injuries were not catastrophic).
