Dangerous junction for cyclists
Reported via desktop in the General highways enquiry category anonymously at 10:10, Tue 21 March 2023
Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4339218.
The Bristol to Bath Cycle Path ends and leads directly on to St Phillip's Road. This is an industrial area, putting a large vans in lorries in direct conflict with a large number of cyclists (particularly at start and end of school day / working day). It is particularly dangerous at the junction of St Phillip's Road and Midland Road. Cyclists are meant to cross traffic to get on the pavement to use the traffic light cross walk on Midland Road. But vans and cars are turning into St Phillip's Road at the same time that cyclists are trying to cross traffic to go on the pavement so that they can use the lighted cross walk. This morning I saw two separate incidents of dangerous driving almost causing fatality of cyclists, including mother with baby on bike and a young school aged girl on bike. My husband previous witnessed a mother and child knocked over (thankfully okay) on this stretch and the car didn't even stop! This stretch of road and particularly this junction is just waiting for a fatality. Act now before this happens.

I agree on this comment. I drive and work on St Phillips Road and daily I worry I am going to knock a cyclist when turning in from Midland Road direction coming from Kingsland Road. It is not a well thought out cycle track considering the major cycle track that leads to here.
