Southmead Roundabout
Reported via mobile in the Roads category anonymously at 17:25, Sat 3 June 2023
Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4627650.
The potholes have been there for many months. You recently had work people down there for a week. Why did you not repair that whole roundabout then?!
It is very dangerous on a bike and costly if your road damages my car.

There have been multiple reports of damage to the road surface at this roundabout over many months. Each time the council closes the report with the message ‘as this issue is not urgent we will deal with it as part of a future planned work scheme in this area’. This is not acceptable. Temporary filling of the holes is required to prevent damage to vehicles and injury to cyclists.

This roundabout has been in a parlous state for years. If you look on Google Street View you can see that in 2021 there were some pretty ropey temporary tarmac fillings put into the holes but now these have come out - see the Street View picture from May 2023. Now it is July 2023 and this is getting much worse. I drive through this junction most mornings and it is a real problem but there is no evidence that anyone has looked at it as usually there would be various paint markings to show what was needed. This needs to be prioritised as it is also by a zebra crossing where the safety road surface has come away - it was installed when Amelia lodge was built and hasn't been repaired since, and it was a poor quality job at the outset. Whilst this does need a proper long term fix, as others have said it poses a real safety issue particularly for those on cycles, vois etc and given how many times people have reported it on here if there were to be any accidents I think the Council could have quite a hefty bill to face. Even if you only use the sticking plaster of some temporary filler (though hopefully better than your last contractors' work) it needs to be done urgently.
