Pavement blocked by parked car

Reported via Android in the Obstruction blocking access category anonymously at 18:35, Tue 23 January 2024

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5482037.

Are pavements for pedestrians or car drivers? I asked the driver of this parked car the same question. He insisted that he had done nothing wrong. There was no space for a pedestrian to walk between the car and the hedge, so no chance of anyone getting through with a pushchair or in a wheelchair. The car is parked on a bend on a narrow road. Is the car owner within his rights to park here?

  • Pedestrians Beware! I reported the driver who completely blocked the pavement with his car to the Council. I received a response to say they only take action, in the form of a Fixed Penalty Notice, if there are single or double yellow lines. I was advised to report the matter to the police, which I did. While driving on a pavement and blocking a pavement with a vehicle are both offences, I was told that the police do not follow up any such reports. I was advised that, should the problem persist, the police would consider sending out a PCSO.

  • Who told you that the police do not follow up on such offences? Was it the call handler? Whoever it is, has given you misinformation.
