Junction dangerous for pedestrians

Reported via desktop anonymously at 09:22, Thu 29 February 2024

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5647650.

To get from Chalks Rd W to Whitehall Rd N, pedestrians must cross 2 timed crossings with only a short time. Both are regularly blocked by drivers who think its OK to enter even though there isn't space for their car to exit the junction westbound.

This problem could be improved somewhat by simply adjusting the light sequence and paint.

Have dedicated green time for E-bound traffic on WH rd. This would stop the cars getting stuck as northbound Chalks rd traffic begins. It would also discourage the chancers who run the red light a lot. Probably 50% of the times I use this junction. It would also give a few seconds for the W-bound traffic to clear the pedestrian crossing.

On the left-turning northbound lane of Chalks Rd, moving the stop line south to the end of the island and widening the crossing would also allow pedestrians to cross more safely.

Crossing this junction as a pedestrian during school times frequently forces you to either walk between moving cars or wait for the next cycle where you might find yourself stuck in the same position.

This junction can get busy during school runs with children attending multiple local schools, and the safety of this junction is awful.
