  • I have been told the highway department won't move this because I wouldn't be given permission for a dropped kerb anyway - this is my response.

Please could you let me know where we go from here? As mentioned, the dropped kerb for a driveway is what was planned but is part of a wider accessibility issue that I have. I have been suffering from a slipped disc for 10+ years and when it's at its worst causes extreme mobility issues. For the majority of last year I was unable to walk. Going outside was incredible difficult and required a lot of help from my friends and partner - and that was without having something in front of my house to try and manoeuvre around

Although this may seem like a simple place to put this electric box, it takes up a large portion of the space outside my house which is not accessible for when I have mobility issues. I find it incredibly strange that not so much as a letter was sent to me to say that the front of my house was going to be made inaccessible. As mentioned on the phone, the builders have said it will not be a problem to move it now before the topping goes on. There is also no way I'm going to pay to have something moved outside my property when I wasn't consulted about it being put there in the first place.

I require someone to speak to who can rectify this before it is too late because as mentioned, I have mobility issues and this is going to severely impact my physical well being and ability to access my house.

    Thank you, Ngaio

  • The traffic signal equipment has been installed at the back of the footway, in adopted highway, and does not affect resident’s existing access.
