Bolts chipped off iron bench - liklehood of imminent theft, so community volunteers have moved bench to private dwelling opposite park for temporary safekeeping and are requesting that bench be re-secured by council

Reported via desktop in the Street furniture category anonymously at 07:05, Sun 1 September 2024

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6421511.

See photos . On Tuesday 27th August at 645pm - a suspected imminent theft of a park bench from Sea Mills Recreation ground was reported on our community WhatsApp (St Edyth's Road). This was because a resident had noticed that the bolts had been cut off the bench anchors to the concrete plinth and rocked when they sat on it. As I had been part of the group who had liaised with the council to install the bench (and bins) a few years ago , I reported it to the police (and was issued and incident number AS20240827-0974. A number of residents went to the park immediately and waited an hour for the police to arrive but after no show we felt it appropriate to pre-empt a potential theft of an expensive public property item , by taking it across the road for safekeeping in my garden (14 St Edyths Rd BS9 2ES), where it still is. We'd like the council to re-fit the bench as soo as possible with stronger bolts, anchors to prevent a repeat of this.
