Blocked drain - flooded basement bedroom at Sea Walls Lodge

Reported via mobile in the Flooding/Gully/Drainage category anonymously at 14:59, Mon 16 September 2024

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6477434.

(1) The drain outside of sea walls lodge is blocked - it didn't carry water away on the night of 3 Sept which led to flooding of Sea Walls Lodge basement bedroom (this is the 3rd time Sea Walls Lodge has been flooded in such circumstances). (2) Arguable more importantly - the drains either side of this drain are not positioned in the flow of rain water - so all of the water in the road leading from the Downs at the top of Sea Walls Road to the drain outside of Sea Walls Lodge floods onto Sea Walls Lodge front garden and into the two window light wells to the basement bedroom. Something urgently needs to be done to rectify the insufficient drainage in this part of Sea Walls Road (ie move drains or move gully so that drain is in the flow of water, or add a curb to the outside of Sea Walls Lodge boundary so that water continues to the next drain). The issue with water flow / drains in wrong place in the Sea Walls Road has been present since before 2018 (when water flooded Sea Walls Lodge whole basement) - prior to which the previous owners had also experienced a similar flood 1 or 2 years earlier. The issue with this particular drain has been present to my knowledge since before the heavy downpour last week on 3 September. It urgently needs unblocking and an urgent review of the drainage needs to take place.

  • The issue hasn’t been resolved. As a minimum the drain outside of sea walls lodge needs unblocking asap. The drainage in the street needs fixing permanently to avoid further flooding of our property.

  • There has been no maintenance, the only working drain in this half of sea walls road is outside sea walls lodge, it overflows as it cannot cope with the rainfall, it’s blocked regularly by leaves. I regularly go and sweep leaves, redirect water flow, check drains when raining heavily even through the night. Something needs doing urgently. It’s been weeks now and nothing has been done. I fear just as our basement is dried out and ready to replaster and recarpet, another flood will happen. Please take action soon.
