Gaslight failure

Reported via desktop in the Street light category anonymously at 09:35, Fri 11 October 2024

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6578416.

I have been informed today about the performance of these lights over the past three days following the service / repair on the night of the 8th October. The current performance would leave 50% of BofKP completely in the dark at night between the planned two monthly visits. We have been told that some of the gaslight mantles needed replacement after only 26 days of running time and that they had been replaced on the previous visit. I'm told that currently we have gaslights 1,6,7,8 not coming on at night, that's three of the four lights in the lower section are off at night and that two of those faulty Gaslights have their pilot lights out Number 9 comes on but not until 19:00 and goes off at 08:00 which is out of sync with the others that cycle correctly. Number 1 is out at night but comes at 08:00 and stays on during the daylight hours, 08:00 is when the other working gaslights go off. Number 3 stays on 24hrs a day at the moment. Do you intend to get the service engineer back to correct these problems or are we going to be left in the dark for two months?

  • Bristol City Council are aware of the issue and have forwarded the concerns over to the third party contractor, and requested they make another visit. Sadly as mentioned in previous correspondence; due to circumstances beyond our control, the planned maintenance visit did not achieve what we had hopes. The Gas Engineer encountered extreme weather conditions preventing the scheduled work programme being completed and subsequently due to the conditions he was delayed from attending site as per the agreed times. Several replacement items were also damaged due to the extreme weather conditions and thus prevented several units being serviced. The engineer was on site until 2am. The third party contractor have been requested to visit again as soon as they are able, unfortunately these are the nearest specialists Bristol City Council have access to in regards to this equipment.
