Accident Resulting from Pothole

Reported via desktop in the Roads category anonymously at 11:41, Thursday 31 October 2024

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6679691.

This is to report a serious incident involving a cyclist who was injured on Gloucester Road because of potholes.

On the 24th of October, I witnessed a cyclist being thrown headfirst onto the road when his bike struck one of the potholes on Gloucester Road, just next to Horfield Sports Centre. He suffered a concussion, severe dental injuries, and significant bleeding as a result of the impact. He required medical attention at the hospital, where his injuries were treated and his teeth splinted. His bike was also damaged.

As a local in the area, I am increasingly concerned about its deteriorating surface. The road is in such poor condition that I personally stopped cycling on it a while ago due to safety concerns.

This road is a popular route used by cyclists of all kinds, including professionals, students, and recreational cyclists. Given its heavy use, I ask the council to prioritize the repair of this road surface to prevent further accidents and ensure the safety of all road users.
