No wheelchair access. Narrow pavement

Reported via mobile in the Pavements category anonymously at 12:00, Saturday 9 November 2024

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6712225.

The Merchant Arms has erected a fence upto the curb, next to the pillar under the M32. This means there is no wheelchair access to and from Eastville park and leaves a narrow stretch of Pavement for all the children cycling to and from the park, particularly when lots are travelling to Glenfrome School

  • During the past 2/3 weeks the metal fencing has been moved to its present position then back again so I was surprised to see where the proposed fencing is planned. Obviously this is infringing on what was the original pavement.

  • There is now no access for wheelchairs or children riding bikes to school where there was previously enough of a gap for access.

  • Due to contractor fencing right up to the motorway column there is no pedestrian safe access along the pavement away from the main road on this stretch of street. Pedestrians are forced to the other side of the column which has a curb so no wheelchair, bike, buggy etc. access. This will force pedestrians into a road on a major route to a motorway roundabout with fast flowing traffic and is extremely dangerous.

  • This is incredibly dangerous for our family and others who go this way to school every day. This needs to be fixed and a safe solution made as soon as possible.

  • I noted today that a family with a tricycle could not get past on the pavement and had to wait for the traffic to ease and move past the motorway pillar by going into the road. There is no wheelchair ramp so they would have to move into the road to proceed. Very dangerous and totally unnecessary from the owner of the Merchants Arms.

  • We cannot get past on this pavement with our bikes with the children. It's too dangerous forcing them into the road

  • Merchants Arms still have fence preventing safe pavement access esp for kids in bikes, wheelchairs, pushchairs etc. aggressive and dangerous. They need to be stopped. They are toxic in our community -‘d this latest fence position is just dangerous

  • Old pub the merchant arms on the junction of Glenfrome rd Avery Road Not sure if the fencing has planning very much doubt it. Don’t know why they needed to bring it so far out to the column. My specials needs daughter uses a buggy so we either have to cross on the opposite side of the road and then we don’t have traffic lights – cross Stapleton Road. Also, my mother-in-law uses a mobility scooter so unfortunately she can’t come for walks with us round the lake on that route. Hopefully this problem will get addressed Sooner rather than later.

  • Hard to get past the column with dogs. They might unexpectedly step into the road and cause a traffic accident.

  • We have two young children and use a dual buggy. Passing this section has been made impossible due to the wooden fencing at the old Merchant Arms. This is very dangerous given we are forced onto the busy road

  • As the obviously extremely thoughtless owner of the old pub has decided to erect a fence along the boundary of his land it is imperative that the council address the issue of the pavement on the road side of the pillar. It needs to be levelled and have drop kerbs installed so that young children on bikes and people using mobility aids such as walking frames, wheelchairs or mobility scooters can move along there safely. It is a busy road with drivers frequently speeding past so this really is a matter of urgency. Please don't wait for an accident to happen before doing anything.
