The road markings are unclear and inaccurate around the school area causing significant issues with driving and parking.

Reported via desktop in the Road signage category by Mike McNama at 11:27, Thursday 16 January 2025

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6988737.

Lodge Causeway: The markings on Lodge Causeway are in accurate. There are white zig-zags next to pedestrian crossing that are incomplete due to an unused bus stop. As a result of this cars park in bus stop blocking traffic and making crossing for children dangerous. The yellow zig-zags and double yellow lines are unclear and this leads to cars stopping and dropping causing risks to road users and pedestrians including children crossing. Ridgeway Road: Yellow zig-zags have been removed and not repainted - this has resulted in unclear and dangerous signage on the carriageway. As a result, stop and drop has increased and this blocks the road and makes the area more dangerous for road users and pedestrians. The crossing patrol at the top of Ridgeway Road and junction of Lodge Causeway is in place to support the safe crossing at this point. However, even with this in place risks due to poor driving and parking are significant.

  • Agree this is a significant problem. In addition, drivers continue to park on double yellow lines on the corner of ridgeway rd and Abingdon rd, making it dangerous for parents and children to cross here as well. Is anyone in the council bothering to enforce these road markings, even when they do exist?

  • I support this petition. More traffic enforcement in the area around school drop off and pick up times is needed too.

I would also support lengthening of the road closure (at drop off and pick up times) at the Junior School to cover the whole of Abingdon Road to create an (almost) traffic free route between the Infant and Junior Schools.

  • I agree with this issue, the road markings including double yellow lines are completely faded which doesn't help the build up of traffic especially at busy times for the local primary schools and local churches/mosques. Drivers park on the pavement and drive/reverse carelessly which endangers local young children who are walking to/fro school. Lodge causeway, ridgeway road & mayfield park all need updated road markings and parking deterents.

  • The road markings around the infant school need repainting. We went for a walk around the school on Monday as part of a class topic on traffic and we looked at the road markings and they are very faint. The white zig-zags and extremely difficult to see. A repainting of the road markings would improve the look around the outside of the school as well as making it much clearer where people can and can't park.

  • I strongly agree with the request to improve the road markings around Chester Park Infant school. The current condition of the markings means drivers are more likely to park where they shouldn't, and many drivers do. This makes it difficult and dangerous to navigate the area as a pedestrian or cyclist, even more so because the Ridgeway Road pavement here is very narrow.

It would also be nice if there was something (road signs?) to discourage drivers idling their engines, lots do around this area. Do many people even know it's illegal on a public road (not to mention the pollution aspect)?

  • There has been a car park on the zig zag lines now for 3 days causing lots of congestion.
