Abandoned Caravan being used as rubbish bin, attracting fly tipping to the whole area

Reported via desktop in the Flytipping category by Jade Estelle Harrison at 19:46, Sunday 9 March 2025

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7250845.

I am writing to report an abandoned caravan on Petherbridge Way that has become a significant environmental and safety concern for our community.

This caravan was originally located on the green area but was moved approximately a meter onto the road during an eviction process carried out by council-employed bailiffs.

Before being relocated during eviction by BCC bailiffs , this caravan had been vandalised, smashed, abandoned, and is now being used as an impromptu dumping ground, attracting additional fly-tipping to our area. The attached photographs document this situation. I wish to emphasise that this waste is not being generated by the legitimate van-dwelling residents in the area, who dispose of their waste appropriately and ethically.

This situation creates several serious problems:

The abandoned caravan and accumulating waste represent a significant fire, health and environmental hazard, endangering nearby residents and wildlife.

The council's inaction in removing this hazard could be interpreted as neglect of duty of care to local residents. This eyesore will inevitably be wrongfully attributed to the van-dwelling community (there is plenty of precedent and evidence for this with NET/BCC conduct), when in fact we are victims of this situation, not the cause.

During a time of heightened community tensions, this abandoned caravan presents an opportunity for those with prejudiced views against the van-dwelling/GRT community to target us, potentially through arson or other harmful acts.

I request urgent action to remove this abandoned caravan and clean up the associated waste. Proper management of this situation would benefit all community members, residents and consumers on and around Petherbridge Way, and prevent the van-dwelling community from being unfairly scapegoated for issues we did not create.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I am available to discuss this further or provide additional information as needed.
