People are now parking on the Downs when it's busy in good weather

Reported via desktop in the Obstruction blocking access category anonymously at 15:20, Saturday 10 May 2025

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7549350.

The lack of action to deal with traveller communities and vans being parked permanently on the Downs has led to a normalisation of general bad behaviour. People are now parking on the grass itself - today (Saturday 10 May 2025) there was a long line of cars parked on the grass beside a double-yellow line. This is impacting on people's ability to use and enjoy the open space of the Downs and simply perpetuates the idea that rules around how people need to treat and behave on the Downs will not be enforced. Things will only get worse unless more definitive action is taken.

  • It's all over the downs, people are driving and parking where they want. The grass is no longer safe. My son was scared to tears at one point when boy racers were racing incredibly close to us. The vans are a joke. Fly tipping everywhere. The council and police need to address all of this to make it a safe and pleasant place as it should be.
