Cyclists misusing footpath

Reported via desktop in the Road signage category by Chris Fox at 15:44, Thu 19 June 2025

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7734656.

Cyclists frequently misuse the footpath around West Town Academy. When challenged some aggressively assert they are on the right cycle track; but they are mistaken. Heading from the Tesco site towards Hither Bath Bridge, some cyclists miss the right turn after the bridge over the brook, which is poorly signed. They proceed straight ahead to the footpath that passes the school gates. There is no "no cycling" sigh at the beginning of this path; there is one where the path goes down steps to West Town Lane; there is also no sign at the footpath junction with Hither Bath Bridge half way around the school. Clear new signage is required. It is not safe for small children exiting the school gates with cyclists hurtling past - nor indeed for other pedestrians

Updates

  • A new enquiry has been raised for this issue.

Posted by Bristol City Council at 15:44, Thu 19 June 2025

  • The signage is not clearly visible and it would be easy for a cyclist to assume the way is straight ahead, and miss the direction to turn right
