Concrete / tarmac Surround breaking up

Reported via desktop in the Utlility covers category anonymously at 16:26, Wed 25 June 2025

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7763539.

The concrete / tarmac surround of the 2 metal manhole covers in Roman Road, on Clifton Down, is breaking up leaving the covers loose in the road. Gradually getting worse, the covers move when driven over

Updates

  • A new enquiry has been raised for this issue.

  • This manhole/ drain cover is very loose and very loudly “clanks” when driven over (which cannot be avoided), moving back and forth and seriously breaking up the road. It is a larger than normal cover and the worry is if it ultimately collapses. This would cause considerable car damage and perhaps a serious accident with injuries, especially if another car were right behind, as is often the case on this road.

  • This problem is a significant danger to two-wheeled traffic. If a rider comes off they could be injured not only by falling but from a following vehicle.
