Depression in road

Reported via desktop in the Roads category anonymously at 19:25, Fri 4 July 2025

Sent to Bristol City Council 6 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 7811089.

This depression has developed since the outbound carriageway was dug up for utility work about 4 years ago, The area was re-surfaced, but it has now sunk and there is a substantial depression there now, which has got worse during the last 6 months or so. So much so that when lorries go over it there is a dreadful noise, particularly if they are empty. Vehicles tend to travel at speed along this stretch of road which means that the noise is exaggerated when they go over the dip in the road. This depression also fills with rainwater when it rains which makes a large puddle. Additionally there is another depression further along (outbound) roughly outside 358/360 which causes the same problems, so it’s a double whammy of noise.

  • Sitting here in my front room this afternoon, the crashes and bangs caused by empty or part empty lorries going over this depression have been unbearable. Please bear in mind that Anchor House, the sheltered housing for the elderly, is situated right on this section of road. What it must be like for these poor folk I dread to think. It makes me jump out of my skin !! This issue needs to be escalated if that’s possible.
