Follow-up to closed report – inadequate street cleansing

Reported via Android in the Litter category anonymously at 21:43, Tuesday 13 January 2026

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8683194.

This report is submitted as a follow-up to a previously closed request. While a light litter-pick appears to have taken place, it has not addressed the substantive, ingrained issues across this area. Significant problems remain, including: A burnt-out mattress still present on site Long-standing litter embedded in fencing and vegetation, indicating prolonged neglect rather than recent dumping Accumulated waste and debris within hedgerows and boundary lines that cannot be resolved by surface picking Glencoyne Square in particular shows extensive litter ingrained in grassed areas, not immediately visible from a distance but clearly evident on proper inspection This does not constitute a proper street cleanse. The condition of the area suggests systemic under-maintenance, not an isolated lapse. Under the council’s statutory duties relating to street cleansing and environmental maintenance (including obligations arising from the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Code of Practice on Litter and Refuse), this area requires a thorough, end-to-end clean, including removal of embedded waste, bulky refuse, and accumulated detritus within vegetation and boundaries. If a comprehensive street cleanse is not carried out across the affected area, rather than superficial litter picking, this matter will be escalated as a formal complaint concerning service failure and neglect of public space. Photographs attached illustrate the remaining conditions.
